In a bid to find new solutions to make global drone services more safe and efficient, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) will hold a second DRONE ENABLE event in Chengdu, China, on September 13 to 14.
This as drone deliveries, inspections and even autonomous flying taxis are near-term realities, according to Icao secretary general Fang Liu.
In preparation for the event, Icao has issued a request for information (RFI) to expand on guidance material initiated after its first drone management event last year.
“Multiple states and regional groups have activities under way to establish a UAS (unmanned aircraft system) airspace management tool for lower altitudes, and Icao’s work through this RFI process will help to facilitate harmonised solutions which are safe, secure, sustainable, and most importantly globally aligned,” said Liu.
The event will bring together experts and innovators from industry, academia and other areas to help globally coordinate the development of UAS activities and safely integrate UAS and existing conventional air traffic management systems.
