Ghana secures funding to upgrade port

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has secured funding for the expansion of the Tema Port while the US$120-million Bulk Handling Jetty construction project, which started in 2013, is expected to be completed in November 2015.

Dzifa Ativor, Minister of Transport, announced this on the GPHA website, noting that the additional US$1.5-billion project, which will take four years to complete, will involve the building of four deep-water berths and an access channel to accommodate larger vessels with high capacity equipment.

“This will create the largest cargo port in West Africa, and one of the best in Africa, with a capacity of 3.5 million TEUs per annum,” said Ativor.
