As the government
embarks on its massive
infrastructure investment
programme, it’s important
to get the focus right.
“We need to ensure
we are moving freight
more efficiently,” says
Prof Jackie Walters,
head of the Department
of Transport and Supply
Chain Management
at the University of
Johannesburg.
“While the provision
and improvement of
transport infrastructure is
necessary, it is important
to note that not all
infrastructure will lead to
economic development.
We also need to ensure
we have the right trade
and economic policies in
place.”
