Gearing up for Solas dealine

As the July 1 ‘D-day’
approaches for the
implementation of the new
IMO Solas regulations
requiring a certified verified
gross mass (VGM) for every
container before it is loaded
aboard ship, service providers
are gearing up.
“We are certainly ready,”
Mike Barnard of Professional
Aviation Services told FTW.
“Our main challenge has
been to ensure there are ample
weighing facilities at the
ports and to make sure that
the current infrastructure
is compliant with the
standards.”
The biggest concern,
in his view is the sheer
scale in terms of volumes
through the ports. “This
is why we are investing in
mobile weighbridge
technologies in order to
provide our clients with an
effective service.”
