The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in partnership with the SABS Design Institute, Furntech, FPM Seta and the Western Cape Furniture Initiative, is hosting a furniture design competition to promote innovation and encourage interest in the industry. The competition aims to identify and nurture design capabilities, to raise the image and grow the competitiveness of the South African furniture manufacturing industry. The theme of the competition is "Local is Lekker". Entrants must submit concepts and sketches of proposed products that make use of local inputs and show how these products will be incorporated into a local setting. Entries will open on 15 October 2012 and close on 16 November 2012
