Fleet renewal programme
begins in March

TAIWANESE INDEPENDENT Fuhai Line has added a fourth vessel to its 3-vessel fleet connecting South Africa, Mauritius and the Far East.
The 900 teu Berane sailed from Hong Kong on January 8 and heralds the start of a fleet renewal programme which will be rolled out from March. This will see rhe existing three 700 teu vessels replaced with newer, bigger ships.
Taiwan-based marketing director Jimmy Chao told FTW in Johannesburg last week that the line was delighted with response to the service which was sailing 80% full since its launch in August last year.
Fuhai offers three sailings a month calling Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Louis (inbound) and Durban. Cape Town can be served on a transhipment basis.
We look forward to a positive outlook for 2001 and believe the rand will stabilise, boding well for imports., said Chao.
Johannesburg-based owners representative Maria Chien is equally optimistic. She believes that the line's probationary period is over and that it has successfully gained the trust of the market.
She stressed that Fuhai Line was in no way connected with South Bay Line, an incorrect perception which she is keen to flush out.
