"Freight-Web" links transporters and clients

A NEW partnership between transport operators, customers and suppliers to the industry has led to the creation of a computer network system which will improve the flow of information between people in the industry and cut down on paperwork. The new system, called Freight-Web, allows users to access a database on vehicles and loads in the entire subcontinent, electronic proof of delivery, the ability to pay and receive cash electronically, as well as the option of linking to a vehicle tracking system for security. Paperless communication such as email is an important aspect of the system. Freight-Web provides instantaneous electronic delivery through a fax server which has the ability to catalogue and store documentation, and be accessed by transporters and customers. Confidentiality is maintained because the information is only available to the transporter and customer of a particular load. Once the POD is recorded on the system, no further amendments can be made to the original printed documents. Waybills can be created and sent electronically on Freight-Web, and its link to SASWITCH means payments and cash receipts can be made electronically. Connecting to Freight-Web is free. The only charge is the usual online one, and there is no fixed monthly service fee.
