It could become an annual event LEE BOTTI & Associates (LBA) has sold its highly sought-after salary survey of the shipping and clearing and forwarding industries to P-E Corporate Services. The two companies will co-operate in marketing future versions of the survey which will be produced by P-ECS. The next one will be published in November this year. LBA has produced the survey every two years since 1985. The possibility of making it an annual event is under consideration. According to LBA managing director Lee Botti, the increasing size of the survey and time commitment needed to carry out the research prompted the initial discussions with P-ECS. LBA’s core business is in assisting clients in the logistics industries with their recruitment and staffing needs. “With companies now putting increased focus on HR departments our clients’ needs are becoming more sophisticated and the input of remuneration specialists will greatly enhance the survey,” she said. It will continue to provide data on more than 40 different employment positions in the clearing and forwarding industry covering Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Western and Eastern Cape. The costs of participation will be in line with LBA’s previous surveys and only participating companies will be given the results. P-ECS’s Remuneration Practice produces South Africa’s largest suite of national, regional and industry-based salary surveys, says Botti. According to P-ECS chief executive Martin Westcott, the company’s data includes over 800 South African companies employing more than 1,5 million staff. “Acquiring the shipping industry survey is directly in line with our policy of providing industry-specific compensation and benefits data to leading companies in the sector concerned,” he said. The two companies will hold a joint seminar later this year where market trends and overall results of the 2003 survey will be discussed.
