School of Shipping’s freight industry e-learning platform, introduced earlier this year to meet learnership requirements of the Transport SETA (TETA), now also provides elements of its learnership for people already established in the sector, says director Colin Doyle. Six key areas of the on-line learnership are now available separately for industry employees seeking to enhance their knowledge as part of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). On offer are freight industry specific communication, mathematics, general business, international trade, freight forwarding and customs procedures. “The subjects can be undertaken with all the advantages of e-learning – it is inexpensive and completed in one’s own time which means that it does not cut into productive working time,” says Doyle. “This offers all employees an opportunity to fill in gaps in their knowledge at their leisure. It has all the internetbased interactive capacity that our full learnership programme provides and manages for companies’ learners,” he said. The full e-learning platform, or these individual bundles, are available to people anywhere in the world. It offers unlimited computer interaction with a select group of tutors and assessors. Built in alerts and performance monitoring indicates to all participants when assignments are due and other deadlines to help them to succeed. “We have been inundated with enquiries and registrations since we launched the platform in April this year so this facility is proving to be extremely attractive as a learning tool,” explains Doyle.
