CUSTOMS FRAUD through tariff misdeclaration is so rife that trade statistics can no longer be relied upon as an accurate reflection of reality.
This was one of the findings at a Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry workshop recently where one delegate claimed that the tariff code for machinery, for example, was widely used for the export of stolen vehicles.
