Fledgling logistics company records ‘phenomenal’ growth

Just 18 months since its launch, NGL Logistic Service has recorded ‘phenomenal’ growth with the past four months exceptional despite the global economic downturn, according to owners Mark Scott and Quinton de Villiers. “We have seen growth of about 300% in the past four months,” says Scott. “Many companies have been forced to retrench whereas we have been taking on new staff in an effort to keep up with the growth of the company.” This they attribute to their commitment and hands-on approach. “We are not doing anything different, but we are available to our clients and we are honest.” It is this honesty that drives them to always tell their clients the truth regardless of whether they will like the answer or not. And, says De Villiers, this has led to relationships built on trust. “What we say we do, we do. If we promise something, you will get it. And you will deal with one of us, not a manager or a driver, or anyone else. We don’t strive for the normal corporate client relationships but rather get out there and do the work.” Offering a niche service they have signed on more than 27 clients in the past 18 months. “We do what we call one man, one delivery which was identified as a need in the industry. With more than 29 years’ joint experience in the logistics industry, we understand the complexities, intricacies and needs of our clients,” says De Villiers. NGL Logistic Service moves cargo at any time anywhere in South Africa. “We only move one client’s cargo at a time. That way we fit in with our client’s schedule, whereas with most freight forwarders the client has to adapt to the transport schedule.” Offering a variety of services, the fleet of 68 trucks is on standby 24 hours a day to service clients’ transportation needs. “There is huge consequence for us for non-delivery as it is a niche market, but it also drives us to excel and to continuously grow the company,” says Scott. Also the owners of NGL Fleet Services and DMG Specialised Artisan and Recruitment Services, they have purchased 25 % in a security company that specialises in armed escorts. Scott and De Villiers are firm believers that hard work pays off.
