German rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, started another direct train link on the China to Europe trade route, extending its reach into a domain dominated by shipping companies such as AP Moeller-Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. The first train arrived in Hamburg on Friday last week, according to Euronews.
Bloomberg News reports that the first cargo train carrying 51 containers travelled 10 214 kilometres from the central Chinese industrial hub of Zhengzhou, taking 15 days to reach its final destination compared to the 30-40 days container ships need on the Asia-Europe route. Officials say heavy cargo that cannot be transported by air, car parts and electronics will benefit from the new service.
