Industry is set to receive feedback from the South African Revenue Service (Sars) at the end of April on the fourth and last set of rules and regulations guiding the Customs Control Act. Various industry organisations and customs experts have been giving input since last year. Sars has provided feedback on the first three sets, with much of industry’s recommendations being accepted. The fourth feedback session in April will conclude industry’s input into the Customs Control Act. “We expect once this session has been completed that the regulations guiding the Customs Duty Act will follow for our commentary,” said a source. Sars has been working hard to see the new legislation in place by the middle of this year, but with the rules and regulations of the Duty Act not out yet and some issues yet to be resolved within the Control Act, indications are that the new customs legislation will only come into effect in 2016.
