Fastjet CEO to step down

Ed Winter

Low-cost airline Fastjet’s CEO, Ed Winter, is to step down on Friday (March 18). This follows a call by the airline’s second-largest shareholder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, for his dismissal.

According to a report by Reuters news agency, Haji-Ioannou –  who founded Fastjet in 1995 and owns a 12% stake – said Winter had created significant overheads for the company, resulting in a high cost base.

Non-executive chairman, Colin Child, will be appointed executive chairman until a new CEO is appointed.
