Export packing company welcomes all sizes and shapes of cargo

Paul Somjen ... Ultimately, secure packaging is the difference between long and short-term business relationships

WE MOVE anything from a cup to a 185 ton piece of equipment.
That's the broad undertaking from machine moving and rigging company Jumbo Packing which specialises in the export packaging and transport of any size or shape of cargo.
The Johannesburg-based company offers a one-stop operation which includes packing the goods, manufacturing the bases and cases, project control and transport.
And it's a field in which, during its eight years of operation, it has gained considerable expertise, according to Paul Somjen, who has a library of photographic evidence of the wide range of projects successfully executed.
We have our own mobile cranes - 20 ton, 50 ton and 110 ton - in addition to which all our trucks are equipped with cranes.
A microbiologist by profession, it was Somjen's disillusionment with the export packaging industry that prompted his change of career direction.
As a microbiologist we were moving samples in drums which needed to be packed into containers. The inefficiency convinced me of a gap in the market for a competent packaging operator.
It's all a question of common logic, in Somjen's view. You need to listen to the client's requirements and give him what he needs. Ultimately secure packaging is the difference between long and short-term business relationships, which is why the shipper can't afford to cut corners.
So convinced is the company of its ability to perform that clients can request a survey report as part of the deal.
