SEA CARGO surcharges keep flooding into the market. Latest is a new special equipment surcharge from the member lines of the Europe Southern Africa Conference. Effective since June 1 for southbound traffic, a US$600/TEU (R4 092) surcharge was aimed at flatracks, open side, open top or platform containers; and a US$200/TEU (R1 364) for hazardous cargo (IMCO classes 2–9). On the same date, there was an increase in the bunker adjustment factor (BAF) on sea cargoes to-and-from Israel – with northbound traffic being hit for US$266/TEU (R1 814), and US$532/FEU (R3 628). Southbound traffic has faced a BAF of US$133/TEU (R907) and US$266/FEU (R1 814).
