THE NEXT round of mutual duty reductions for trade between SA and Europe is due on January 1, according to Jeff Epstein, internal auditor at forwarders, Safcor Panalpina. “But,” he told FTW, “importers should be aware that reduced rates of duty are only applicable after publication of the relevant notice in the Government Gazette. “On occasion government has published these with retrospective effect.” Clearances at preferential rates are always subject to the provision by suppliers of the requisite declarations/certificates of origin, Epstein added.
