Ethiopian Airlines to set up aircraft parts manufacturing facility

Ethiopian Airlines has signed a partnership agreement with a European aerospace manufacturing company for the construction of an aircraft interior parts manufacturing facility.

The new facility aims to increase the manufacturing capabilities of the country and eventually support its textile and leather manufacturing industries.

This will be accomplished by using locally made fabric and leather materials in the production of aircraft seat covers, safety belts and carpets once the airline has the capability to certify the local products to meet the strict requirements set by aviation regulators such as the European Aviation Safety Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam, said that imported raw materials would initially be used for the manufacture and supply of the aircraft interior parts.
