EMIRATES SKYCARGO and Maersk Logistics have signed a global agreement, creating a workshop partnership between the airline and the integrated logistics management group. In terms of the agreement Emirates gains the global support of Maersk Logistics airfreight volumes, while the latter gets enhanced airfreight capabilities with prime access to capacity and flexibility. "It's early days yet, but I have no doubt we, at this end of the network, will eventually enjoy the benefits of the agreement," says Emirates SkyCargo South African general manager Kum Naicker. "Any agreement of this nature is based on tonnages, with incentives involved. We certainly have the capacity in and out of this country to handle increased volumes, and we will wait and see when the new arrangement comes into our flow of traffic. But I have no doubt it will be there in the near future." Speaking from Emirates SkyCargo headquarters in Dubai, global accounts sales manager Mogens Debracy commented: "Through this agreement we have the potential to interface our IT systems giving the shipper full transparency throughout the supply chain." "By joining forces with Emirates SkyCargo, we are demonstrating our growing focus on airfreight capabilities," said Soren Brandt, global chief executive and managing director of Maersk Logistics.
