Emirates adds Nigeria services

Emirates will reinstate its second daily service to Lagos and resume operations to Abuja in Nigeria from December 15.

The services to Lagos and Abuja will be operated by the Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 777-300 respectively.

In 2016, Emirates suspended its Abuja operations due to “operational challenges that reduced profitability of flying on the route”. Airline president Tim Clark said that Emirates could reduce the frequency of its flights to African cities due to financial challenges on the continent.

“We thank the Nigerian authorities for facilitating the reinstatement of our flights to Abuja and Lagos, which will greatly benefit Nigerian tourism, trade, investment and economy at large,” said Emirates commercial operations, Africa, senior vice president, Orhan Abbas.

“Apart from the increased passenger activity, the new flights will provide up to 23 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight,” he added.
