Electronic rollout proceeds to schedule

Alan Peat THE NATIONAL roll-out of electronic clearances is running to schedule, according to customs’ information technology (IT) expert, Hennie Marais. “It’s all happening as we had planned,” he told FTW, although admitting that they picked up some operational hiccups in the Cape Town seafreight office installation procedure on February 17. “However, there were no serious hassles, and we cleared these problems up relatively easily.” The latest opening is in the Port Elizabeth customs’ seafreight office which went electronic last Monday (February 24). Next in the schedule is PE’s airfreight office which, Marais told FTW, is planned for completion next Monday (March 3).
