LAST WEEK saw the official launch of the Electronic Commerce Association of South Africa (ECASA).
Its mission is to encourage improvements in commercial, industrial and government business efficiency by offering guidance and practical solutions to enable organisations to make the most effective use of electronic commerce (EC).
In a nutshell, it aims to enhance South African competitiveness through the development and implementation of EC.
Two categories of membership have been proposed: full membership for companies, institutions and associations and associate membership for individuals.
This allows anyone who is in the field of EC to belong to the association without punitive membership fees.
ECASA will not only promote the use and awareness of EC throughout South Africa, but will liaise with government, regulatory authorities and other relevant institutions or associations.
