THE European Commission has approved the acquisition and sole control of Safmarine Container Lines (SCL) by Maersk. parent AP Moller.
The acquisition will not harm competition on the trades operated by the parties, according to sources in Brussels.
The Commission examined not only the parties' combined market shares, but also their membership of different shipping consortia and conferences operating in the relevant trades and their market position.
Internet news service Schednet reports that the Commission found that the acquisition would not harm competitive conditions on the trades operated by the parties nor alter the competitive dynamics within the conferences and consortia to which the parties belong.
