ED RICHARDSON THE EASTERN Cape and national governments are continuing to invest heavily in upgrading the Eastern Cape transport and logistics links, according to Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism MEC Andre de Wet. Delivering his budget speech in Bisho recently, De Wet said president Thabo Mbeki had emphasised the importance of reducing the cost of doing business and indicated that plans concerning the national logistics system, organised in Transnet, would be implemented in 2004/05 in his state of the nation address. De Wet’s department has budgeted R359 million for the Coega Development Corporation, and R125-million for the East London IDZ, which is part of the revitalisation of the transport infrastructure in the Eastern half of the province.
