The Mirama Hills-Kagitumba one stop border post between Uganda and Rwanda was officially opened this week, reported TradeMark East Africa (TMEA).
The initiative, part of the East Africa Trade and Transportation Facilitation Project, aims to modernise and strength customs administration and border control agencies in the region to reduce non-tariff costs on trade and cut down on smuggling at the border.
The US$ 7.8 million offers customs and immigration blocks, warehouse building, clearing agents block, goods inspection and verification block and a police station, amongst others.
TMEA, which funded the project, handed over the facility to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on Tuesday. The border post will be operated on a 24-hour basis.
