Logistics group, UTi Distribution, has partnered with fuel retailer, Engen, to roll out South Africa’s first electronic locker (e-locker) system to solve delivery challenges in the online shopping industry.

Engen announced that it had started rolling out Phase 2 of the UTi ByBox delivery terminals at additional fuel stations in Johannesburg, following the launch of the first UTi e-locker in November last year.

“Phase 2 of the roll-out programme is now under way, with UTi and Engen taking it to five Engen service stations in the Sandton area,” Engen said in a statement this week.

Explaining how it works, Greg Saffy, MD of UTi Distribution, said: “When ordering online, shoppers simply select the ByBox delivery option to be sent to their nearest locker at selected Engen service stations.”

Customers will be sent a delivery notice via SMS, indicating that their online purchase has been delivered to the ByBox terminal.
