TradeMap and ProductMap South Africa The International Trade Centre (ITC), a Geneva based organisation, with the financial support of South Africa’s Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS), and the Dutch and Swiss governments have launched TradeMap and ProductMap in South Africa. These products were developed in order to assist exporters, importers, governments and trade support institutions that need to be aware of the dynamics of the international trade environment in which they find themselves. TradeMap South Africa operates in a web-based interactive environment and covers the trade flows of all products between 180 countries and territories. It allows South African exporters, for example, to analyse the present export markets, pre-select priority markets and review opportunities of market, product and supplier diversification. In addition it assists in identifying existing and potential bilateral trade with partner countries. Users are also able to obtain information on tariff and non-tariff barriers ProductMap South Africa offers users extensive market and business information in respect of 72 industry platforms. Proposed Redraft of Schedule No.6 of the Customs & Excise Act The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has extended an invitation to industry to comment on the proposed redrafting of Schedule No.6 of the Customs and Excise Act 91 of 1964 i.e. “Rebate and Refunds of Excise Duties and Fuel Levy”. All comments should be submitted to Ms. Lita Spreeth at lspreeth@sars.gov.za, no later than 15 February. There were no rule amendments – 21 January There were no tariff amendments – 21 January Tariff Applications – Response due Rebate of the duty on a range of components used for the manufacture of gas heaters and electrically fan assisted gas heaters. The applicant is Nu-World Industries (Pty) Ltd. Rebate of the duty on cotton fibres, not carded or combed, ginned but not further processed, of a length exceeding 28,00 mm but not exceeding 35,9 mm in such quantities, at such times and subject to such permit conditions as the Director-General: National Department of Agriculture, may allow by specific permit. The applicant - South African Cotton Textile Manufacturers Association. Response due by 25 February. Tariff Applications – Correction Notice The rebate of the duty on ter- and copolymers of propylene in a primary form, classifiable under tariff subheading 3902.30, for the manufacture of plates, sheets, films, foil and strips of biaxilly oriented propylene of tariff subheading 3920.20.
