The UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency and local officials are working on a plan to free a Dutch cargo ship that has run aground and is now stuck in the mud in the Humber estuary.

According to a BBC report, the 1 850 dwt H&S Wisdom ran aground following a navigational error on Sunday. The short sea boxship had just returned from a trip to Rotterdam when it ran into trouble in the large tidal estuary on the east coast of northern England. The estuary provides access from the North Sea to industrial ports such as Grimsby and Immingham.

H&S Wisdom was destined for the Gunness Wharf Port, a small private wharf on the east bank of the River Trent, which handles bulk and steel-based commodities.

The Humber Rescue lifeboat was dispatched to the scene to assist the vessel on Sunday but it was not able to pull it free from its position. A second attempt to rescue the vessel with the assistance of three tugboats was undertaken at 7am on Monday with no success. A third attempt at around 6pm on Monday evening also failed to free it.

The 82-metre-long H&S Wisdom was built and registered in the Netherlands in 2004 and is owned by Wisdom Shipping and managed by Amasus Shipping.
