TERRY HUTSON
A NUMBER of important appointments and one retirement were announced by the NPA in Durban last week. Captain Mike Brophy, who has been harbourmaster at the port of Durban since 2004, has been appointed chief harbourmaster, succeeding Captain Eddie Bremner of Cape Town, who is retiring. Captain Brophy has served in the marine service of the NPA since the 1970s as tug master and pilot and later as port captain and harbourmaster at Richards Bay and then at Durban. In a dual role, he will continue as Durban harbourmaster. Captain Bremner, who was based in Cape Town, remains on contract to the NPA for a further year in an advisory position. Eugene Rappetti, who has been acting marine operations manager in Durban has been confirmed as marine operations manager. Over at the dockyard Thandiwe Ntuli has been confirmed as manager of the Durban dockyard where she has been acting in that position for some time. Meanwhile it was also announced that Yvonne de Kock, manager of corporate affairs at the port, has opted to go on early retirement from May 1. She has 39 years of service with the organisation, having begun her career with the old SAR&H (later SA Transport Services and later still Transnet) when she worked initially for the rail division. In 1994 she was appointed manager corporate affairs at the port of Durban. Jyothi Naidoo has been acting manager: corporate affairs at the port of Durban.
