THE PORT of Durban is to be closed to shipping for 36 hours on each of September 7 and 14.
This is due to construction work on the entrance channel, according to the port authorities, a major job which means the cut mouth is shut to vessel movement.
On each of the respective dates the port will be closed from 12:00 to 24:00 on the following day.
But there are contingency plans to reduce the impact on vessels as much as possible, according to shipping company, MSC.
“The port will be stockpiling the vessels inside the port,” FTW was told, “so that when vessels complete working on the terminal those vessels already inside can commence working as normal.”
