It’s all about location, which
is why many southern African
countries prefer the Port of
Durban – not only because there
is less congestion, but because it’s
also often more cost-effective.
According to Timothy Comet,
Durban branch manager for
M&B Transport, the importance
of an effective port cannot be
underestimated.
“The Durban port is becoming
increasingly busy as many
countries in southern Africa
prefer using it because it
saves costs.”
While the economic crisis
has seen a definite slowdown in
business, Comet says there is still
much opportunity and once this
crisis is over the pressure will be
on. “The industry is going to be
very busy to get things back to
normal and that will put a lot of
pressure on transporters.”
According to Comet Durban
harbour will also find itself at the
receiving end and can expect to
be busier than ever. It is for this
reason that having an office close
to the port is important for
M&B Transport.
“We offer overnight services
into Swaziland, Lesotho and
Botswana via Johannesburg.
With an office in Durban, close
to the port, we can get to our
goods quickly and effectively.
This saves time and money and
minimises the risk of losses and
damages caused by transhipping
and moving from port to depots.”
Durban is first choice for many southern African countries
