Alan Peat PRAYERS ARE being said in the shipping and forwarding communities that the traditionally dead times at the Durban harbour in December and January follow the pattern this year. Two of the ship-to-shore gantry cranes on the North Quay are due to be taken out of service in that period for what is described as “major maintenance”, an industry source told FTW. This job will take around seven weeks for each crane with the fear expressed that, if volumes don’t drop off enough, this could throw Durban’s port productivity right back into the doldrums.
