ALAN PEAT THE RECENT improvements in SA legislation place considerable responsibility on forwarding and clearing (f&c) agents when handling any aspect of dangerous goods movement, according to David Watts, Durban-based adviser to the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff). “The association believes that every member should ensure that their operational staff has access to sufficient information to ensure that all legal and safety requirements are complied with,” he told FTW. As part of the answer, the Durban branch of the association has arranged a workshop presentation on the responsibilities of their members acting as agents on behalf of importers and exporters of dangerous goods in SA. This will be held on August 17, and the presentation will be made by an expert in the field - Eddie Crane of Dangerous Goods Legislation Consultants. “Crane has extensive knowledge relevant to the transportation of dangerous goods, including all aspects of SA legislation," he said.
