KEVIN MAYHEW THE SECRET to successfully operating a transport fleet optimally over the border lies in the simple act of empowering both drivers and your clients in the freight process. Reliable Transport Services MD, Strini Naidoo, says that people are surprised that he can operate efficiently out of Maseru when he delivers extensively to and from Durban, Zambia and Zimbabwe. “We believe that you can operate efficiently if you make optimal use of technology and call centres as well as place trust in your drivers. We foster a relationship between drivers and our regular clients, so that they become part of the client’s logistics process and they can deal directly with him if necessary,”
he told FTW. Reliable Transport Services operates a fleet of Superlinks, tri-axles and pantechnicon trailers that are serviced in Maseru to move containers and breakbulk. The company plans to open a dedicated office in Harare in March. “We are reaching the stage where we can offer on-line bookings of space as well as cargo tracking at any stage of the movement, including live tracking in Zimbabwe and Zambia. “We also have no problem with clients calling drivers for a progress report about their cargo if they so wish,” he added.
