In a Government Gazette dated 26 October 2012 the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries advised of the Draft Plant Health (Phytosanitary) Bill that was published for public comment. According to the draft bill it serves to provide for phytosanitary measures to prevent the introduction, establishment and spread of regulated pests in South Africa; for the control of regulated pests; for the regulation of the movements of plants, plant products and other regulated articles into, within and out of South Africa; as well as to provide for matters connected therewith. Comment is due by 26 November 2012.
