Kenya Airways is set to introduce a direct flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe from Cape Town, while TAAG Angola Airlines will expand its existing service from Cape Town to Luanda to a daily flight, the Cape Town Air Access team announced on Friday.

The team, based at Wesgro, is tasked with growing the number of direct flights to and from Cape Town.

Kenya Airways’ new route to Victoria Falls will launch on May 18 and provide weekly flights using the airline’s Embraer E190 every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

TAAG Angola Airlines will fly daily to Luanda from October 30.

These flights come on the back of recent announcements by Airlink of the expansion of its service to Maun, Botswana from five to seven times per week, and to Windhoek, Namibia from two to three times per week.

Tim Harris, Wesgro CEO, said growing direct access between Cape Town and African countries was of extreme importance as it played a major role in strengthening trade between Cape Town and the continent.

According to Kenya Airways managing director and CEO Mbuvi Ngunze, there has been a significant increase in demand for Cape Town.

“So much so that we had to increase our frequency in December,” he said.
