The newest greener energy vessel run by Ocean Network Express (ONE) made its maiden voyage to Durban Container Terminal (DCT) Pier 2 last week, carrying an exchange of 2 578 import containers and 2 600 export containers, including citrus refrigerated containers.
The ONE Recommendation is part of the line’s new fleet operating on reduced carbon emissions.
The terminal also deployed adequate resources to efficiently service the four-month-old vessel without interruption and within the stipulated window.
Earlier this year, DCT Pier 1 successfully handled sister vessels ONE Readiness and ONE Reassurance on their maiden voyages to South Africa.
A statement issued by South Africa’s logistics utility said the voyage was a boost to Transnet’s recovery objectives which include improved operating and cost efficiency as well as global competitiveness of the local port terminal network.
The plan’s primary focus is the recovery of volumes from key operations and operating divisions across the organisation.
Durban Terminals managing executive Earle Peters said: “The confidence ONE continues to demonstrate in our business is encouraging and speaks to the strength of the partnership we have cemented over time”.
The One Recommendation had only been to three other destinations to load before heading to South Africa from Singapore, to which it returned after spending four days in Durban.
Despite being in a recovery phase, the port was seizing all opportunities to help its customers to be globally competitive, Peters said.
