RECENTLY-ESTABLISHED freight logistics consultant and co-ordinator, Delivery Logistics Services, is carving a lucrative niche market in South Africa's inland haulage sector.
Headed up by Dave du Plessis, previously national sales manager at Saftainer and with 24 years of experience under his belt, the company specialises in the delivery of breakbulk and containerised cargo, as well as a documentation service, particularly for the collection and delivery of containersed cargo at the ports.
DLS entered the market early last year catering for customers with import, export and domestic transport requirements.
Another important aspect of our business is our consulting service, says Du Plessis. Our expertise in the landside logistics enables us to assist companies in the shipping industry as well as those who have domestic delivery requirements.
And Du Plessis is delighted by customer response so far. Some of our customers to whom we delivered for the first time were surprised and others even thought that something was wrong when they received pre-delivery notification from DLS. This reaction is indicative of the service to which people are accustomed in our industry, but we don't mind because it provides us with opportunities.
DLS is currently based at offices on the East Rand but expects to move to City Deep in the near future.
