Customs advances EDI start-up date

JIA to go live on Monday

JOHANNESBURG INTERNATIONAL Airport will be up and running as South Africa's first fully fledged EDI customs clearance operation as from next Monday, July 27.
The replacement of existing hardware at JIA with more modern Alpha technology was originally scheduled for October, but according to Gavin Collinet, director of customs and excise, so committed is his department to the EDI project, that it has decided to bring forward the date of JIA implementation.
This new technology will be essential for the success of the testing phase of the EDI project, he says.
Added benefits are that the processing time of declarations will be improved and, as a new LAN-network also forms part of the change-over, a more stable environment will be created. Clearing agents and other users of our services will thus also immediately benefit from these enhancements.
