Costing programme earns TFR global award

The development of a system for costing railway movements has earned Transnet Freight Rail the coveted international “Innovation in Management Accountancy award”. Presented at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last week, the award recognises innovation in TFR’s design of a Network Activity Based Costing (NABC) model that enables reports to be generated from any perspective at the click of a button Transnet competed against several international companies including CapGemini and National Australia Group. Luis Gillman, a senior manager at TFR who headed the development and implementation of this system, commented: “The principles of Network Activity Based Costing will have wider applications for all businesses that involve networks including shipping, telecommunications, railway and road transport.”
