JOY ORLEK MIRRORING CONSOLIDATION moves within the shipping industry, two US-based container leasing companies have joined forces Effective this month, Textainer Equipment Management has purchased from Gateway Management Services the right to manage Gateway’s 315 000 TEU container fleet. This creates a combined fleet of 1 million containers, the largest lessor-operated container fleet in the world, according to Textainer. “In the past 19 years we have either purchased or assumed management of the container fleets of six other lessors, now including Gateway. We strongly believe that more leasing industry consolidation is justified, and are actively seeking other opportunities,” John Maccarone, president and CEO of Textainer, said. Textainer’s local operation is based in Durban and headed up by David Attenborough.
