It’s a milestone year for Almar Container Group which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary in the container logistics industry. Established in 1988 by managing director Alistair Forbes, Almar was one of the pioneers of this industry sector, providing flexible, customdesigned leasing solutions. Forbes started in the industry in 1977 when the global container leasing fleet was less than 350 000 units compared to today’s 11.5 million. “Our team has many years of international experience in the container leasing and trading industry, and with a centralised control centre we can offer accurate and prompt administration to support the business,” says Forbes. With its core business in the leasing and trading of ISO marine containers, the company has bought and sold over 200 000 containers in the past 20 years. “We have offices in Dubai and Sao Paulo as well as in Mumbai in India, with a dedicated agent in Caracas in Venezuela. We offer our clients a global service with experienced staff – another key to our success.” Almar also has associates and joint ventures in Australia, Asia, the Indian Ocean Islands, Pakistan and the US Gulf. “We are growing our activity in Africa. At present we have a growing container leasing fleet including new builds,” said divisional director Martin Hawker. A large percentage of its business involves standard dry freight containers, but specialised equipment is also available. “We can offer equipment on shortterm lease, one-way lease, master lease and long-term lease, or even a combination of these. We like to think our business success is not only measured in the numbers but also in the manner that we have conducted our business relationships and in being able to provide for our clients’ specific needs. “Strong relationships with customers, service providers, suppliers and even our competitors are an integral part of the business,” says Forbes.
