Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) along with partners Kwa-Zulu Cruise Terminal (KCT) consortium, MSC Cruises, and the Africa Armada Consortium, held a sod-turning ceremony on November 16 to mark the start of construction of the new Durban passenger terminal.
The event coincided with the arrival of the MSC Orchestra cruise liner.
With 3000 passengers aboard, the cruise liner started its journey in Genoa, Italy, and stopped at Réunion Island, before arriving at the Port of Durban.
TNPA expects to host at least 23 luxury cruise ships at the country’s six cruise ports, with 17 of them expected to arrive in Durban.
