Consolidator launches direct sailing from Gothenburg

Vanguard Logistics Services has launched a new direct service to South Africa from Scandinavia – a first for the global consolidator.

The new service – from ex Gothenburg to Durban – also offers options from Oslo and Helsinki via Gothenburg, thus enabling SA customers easy access to the growing Scandinavian region, said Tramaine Moodley, Vanguard Logistics’ sales and trade management: Europe.

“We are always keen to develop direct services and recent developments have seen Vanguard partner with Austromar – a leading LCL operator based in Prague – to bring reach, frequency and freight control to the region and neighbouring destinations – including Bratislava, Budapest, Linz and Vienna – to and from South Africa,” she said.

The company has also been on an extensive Europe-South Africa sales drive with Austromar’s Jiri Marek having been to SA on a sales visit last month to further identify southand north-bound freight opportunities. Martin Schulz, global strategic accounts manager from the Vanguard Germany office, will also be in SA soon to promote the services from all European countries.

“The last visit we held in April this year proved to be successful as we saw positive developments on several European Union lanes at origin and destination,” said Moodley. These developments include the introduction of a direct service ex Le Havre, France to Durban ahead of the peak season.
