A consolidation service in Johannesburg is helping Zambian importers of bulk to continue providing a range of products for consumers and businesses despite the current downturn in the economy.
Products that are being consolidated include cooking oil, detergent, steel, mining chemicals and polymer granules, according Minesh Parmar, managing partner of LogistiX Zambia.
LogistiX provides transport logistics solutions for bulk cargo across borders within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regions.
It operates from regional offices in Ndola and Johannesburg. Instead of bringing in container loads of product at a time, Zambian importers are having them picked and packed to order in the LogistiX facilities in Johannesburg.
“This saves the importer the import duties and the cost of carrying stock,” he says.
The service runs weekly between Johannesburg and Ndola. LogistiX provides warehousing and distribution services in Zambia using its own fleet of 10-ton trucks and a network of local transporters.
A tracking system monitors the movement of all commodities from origin to destination.
