The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has urged motorists using Main Reef Road to use alternative routes as it will be carrying out construction on the road from today (Friday) until December 10.

According to JRA marketing and communications operations manager, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, the asphalt resurfacing forms part of the city’s R30-million upgrade of the M2-Main Reef interchange to decrease congestion and improve access.

The construction work is expected to cause heavy congestion around China Mall, M2, Main Reef and Treu Road. However, traffic on the M2 southbound will not be affected.

Peters-Scheepers noted that lane reductions could be expected in the afternoons along with temporary closure of two lanes on the M2 onramp and R41.

Motorists are advised to travel at reduced speeds and adhere to traffic guidelines, flag people and signage while travelling along the affected route.
