CROSS COUNTRY Containers recently installed a new satellite tracking and management system in all its 115 vehicles servicing Gauteng operations, and according to operations director Jan Nair it's one of the most comprehensive in the short haul transport market.
It focuses not only on the recovery of hijacked vehicles, but also on the overall management of container deliveries to customers, says Nair .
While the primary and most obvious motivation was the protection of our customers' cargo against hijacking, accurate and proactive communication with our customers on the exact location of their containers in transit was an equally important consideration, he said.
With the system's vast management capabilities, we are now able to identify and respond immediately to any panic-alert condition activated from the vehicle . This will include mechanical breakdown alerts. At every stage, at every movement, a vehicle can be traced right down to street level, including speed travelled and stoppage time taken. This information is backed up on a daily basis and can be referenced at any time, said Nair.
