In the time-sensitive perishable
export industry where speedy
turnaround of cargo is
critical, airfreight shipments
moved as “known cargo”
can significantly reduce lead
times and turnaround times
at the airport, according to
Nicole Alexander,
branch manager
of Professional
Aviation Services
in Cape Town.
“We are able
to assist freight
forwarders
and logistics
companies who
want to make their
perishable facility compliant
with Part 108 legislation for
airfreight,” she told FTW.
The company offers a
comprehensive solution which
includes risk assessments,
site inspections, liaison
with the South African Civil
Aviation Authority (SACAA),
background and criminal
checks, as well as all the
necessary training courses that
a client would need in order to
become compliant.
“We also offer specialist
tracking and monitoring
of export containers from
factory to seaport as a
specialised service,”
said Alexander.
And she
believes that
based on the
number of
clients who
export perishable
cargo on behalf of
their customers, all
indications are that it is an
area of growth, specifically in
the airfreight industry.
Several companies were
expanding operations into the
sector and making provision for
and building new facilities to
take advantage of the growth,
she said.
