Ed Richardson THERE WILL be no significant delays in the building of the infrastructure for the Coega Industrial Development Zone following last week’s collapse of scaffolding during the building of a bridge, says Coega Development Corporation (CDC) ceo Pepi Silinga. Two workers were killed and 20 injured when the scaffolding collapsed on Thursday, November 13. “Initial indications of the accident are that the scaffolding supporting formwork for the construction of the bridge collapsed as concrete was being poured. The scaffolding is used to support the formwork while the concrete is wet, and would be removed as soon as the concrete had set,” Silinga said. The bridge is part of Neptune Road, which is the main arterial road for the Coega IDZ.
