Shipping major CMA CGM’s vessel, Theodore Roosevelt, has become the largest ship to cross the Panama Canal while on its way to inaugurate the Bayonne Bridge in New York on September 7.

The cargo ship has a capacity of 14 414 TEUs and a length of 12 028 feet, which makes it four times larger than the Statue of Liberty and more than four American football fields in length, according to a statement released by the French shipping line yesterday (Monday).

The Bayonne Bridge was raised, and a canal dug, in order to allow larger ships to travel to the New York-Newark port from the Panama Canal.
